3 Months In

How crazy is it that I’ve been traveling around for over 3 months now? (and yes I know it’s been 4 months now, but I wrote this a while ago and just didn’t post it).

I started this journey mid-August and it’s now November. I’ve been to 13 countries in that time, met up with old friends and made new ones. I’ve seen countless monuments and historical sites. I’ve taken trains, ferries, busses, taxis and hitch-hiked.

I’ve been to big cities and to rural villages and everything in between. I’ve slept until 2pm and gotten up with the sun. I’ve explored countless streets and alleyways. I’ve checked out local food and seeked out places with tastes from home. I’ve had local drinks and felt my stomach lining die a little.

It’s been 3 months, and yet it feels like it’s been weeks. It’s been 3 months and I’ve never felt so alive.

I’ve found me again – I’m writing again – even just in journals to myself. I’m living in the moment again, not stuck in my books. I’m reading sure – but even as I’ve read, I’ve found my mind drifting as well and it takes longer to get through a book than it has taken me in years. And I love it.

I love this life. I love the travel. And I love the craziness of not knowing what I’m doing next. I love the adventure and the unknown and the lazy days. I love the travel days where all I want to do is sleep, and I love the days of exploring so much my legs feel like mush.

One of the books I’ve reread recently has one of the truest quotes to this life I’m currently living:

“You gotta live your life with the volume turned all the way up, true to what you believe and fearless of what anybody else thinks of you.” ~Lillie from Lead by Renee Jagger and Michael Anderle
