About Me
My Story
Hi, I’m Holly, the Little Nomad that Could. I’m excited for you to join me on my adventures!
Travel is something that has always been a major draw in my life. My solo travel adventures date back to elementary school and have only grown since then (keep an eye out for some blog posts about my early years!). When I was getting my bachelors degree, I heard about opportunities to study abroad. I jumped right in and headed to London in January of 2013 where I had a flat and a flat-mate, took the tube to school, and got my first taste of life abroad.
That was the beginning of it all.
“Give every opportunity a thought, and give the good ones a try.”
Work and Travel
Fast forward to 2020, at this point I’ve traveled to multiple countries, both solo and with groups, and I’ve finished my Masters degree in Library Science. I started the year by boarding a ship as the librarian on Semester at Sea, traveling the world while working – and I fell in love with that life. Unfortunately, as we all know, COVID was not kind to travelers and after outrunning it as long as we could, I returned to the states in late March. A couple months later I relocated to Northern Virginia to focus on my library dream and worked to create a new library system as its first Director. During the next 5 years, I worked tirelessly at a job I loved, traveling occasionally when my schedule (and the world) allowed.
“And suddenly you know…It’s time to start something new and trust in the magic of new beginnings.”
The Turning Point
My dream of full time travel never went away, but it was backburnered as I focused on my career and enjoyed the love of my cat. However, in December of 2024, I lost my best friend, my fur baby, and honestly – the one thing in my life keeping me as settled as I’ve ever been. Losing him broke my heart, but it also opened the doors I hadn’t even realized I had mentally closed.
After a lot of contemplation, talking to family, and a tattoo to memorialize the place Enk held in my heart – I made the decision to give my notice, sell all my belongings, and prepare for the adventure I’ve always longed for.
The Dream
I’ve heard from so many people that what I’m doing is crazy, courageous, adventurous, nerve-wracking, and so much more. Honestly – you name an adjective, I’ve probably heard it since I announced what I’m doing.
But none of that matters to me – for I am here. Living my dream, for me, no one else. Where it’ll take me, not even I know, but isn’t that the beauty of life?
