Exploring Luxembourg

Heading there to see a friend I met while staying at a hostel in LA back in March, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Anna, while growing up there, has been making plans to move to LA since I met her and she didn’t have a lot of specific places to suggest that I visit while I was there.

That being said – I did enjoy my time! Her parents were out of town and they all graciously let me stay at their place while I was there. It was nice to sleep in a bed bigger than the twin of most hostels and not have to share a space with a large group of people. Anna and I hung out a couple times, since I was there during the week – she had work to worry about. Mostly I explored the city on my own.

The people I met were all nice, but like she had mentioned – many of them are go-go-go as they go about their lives. It gave me similar vibes as the east coast and while chilly weather I’m sure contributed – I didn’t see as many people out and about (besides tourists) than I have in other parts of Europe.

That all said – I still had fun exploring the town. Seeing the different parks, and trying some of the local food! I would like to come back in the future and see some of the surrounding area – though that seems to be my normal throughout this trip, there’s never enough time. Cool fact though? Public transit is completely free in Luxembourg! At any point you can hop on a bus or train or tram and go wherever you want for free. While public transit tends to be pretty affordable in Europe (outside the more long distance trains) it was really nice to have that option as it meant that I could explore more without worrying that my trips were adding up to more than I’d like.

One of the best things that I had while I was there was hot chocolate. I believe it’s a specialty in Luxembourg, and made locally, and it’s attached to a spoon. You then get steamed milk and put the spoon right in the mug, letting it melt as you stir. They have so many different options – I was really happy to find a couple made with White Chocolate since I can’t have traditional chocolate due to the caffeine. I had a really nice strawberry flavored one with my dinner – then had another one for ‘dessert’ because it was that good.

Overall Luxembourg was a nice chill stop where I didn’t feel the need to go and see a million things. I’m happy that I had that time to relax a while!
